DAF Heavy Vehicle Apprenticeship graduate, Daniel Parker, from DAF dealer Adams Morey has been awarded second place at the WorldSkills UK Live Finals 2021.

Based at Adams Morey DAF Portsmouth, Dan Parker qualified for the WorldSkills Finals in September after finishing his DAF apprenticeship earlier in the month. To qualify and reach the final of the WorldSkills competition consisted of completing an online test and a series of theoretical exams.

The judges were looking for technicians who were able to showcase health and safety, manual dexterity, attention to detail, maths, and organisational skills. Held at Cardiff and Vale College’s Automotive Training Centre, the final was a live practical competition, designed by industry professionals. Throughout the event, the assessors inspect the competitor’s individual knowledge, practical skills and employability qualities against current industry standards and working practices in a timed and competitive environment.

Dan Parker comments: “Taking part in the WorldSkills Live Finals and representing DAF and Adams Morey at such a prestigious event made me very proud. I have a great network of colleagues within my team and the DAF network who are on hand to support me. Throughout the competition I have learnt to believe in my own ability.”

Parker continues: “To anyone considering a career within the DAF network I would say that whatever you want to do, strive to be the best, and be the best person you can be.”

Kevin Swinnerton, Managing Director, Adams Morey DAF concludes: “We’re extremely proud of Dan and his achievement at the WorldSkills Final. Dan started his career with us as an apprentice and has recently graduated to become an HGV Technician at our Portsmouth dealership. He is an inspiration to others not just within our business, but across the DAF network and wider industry. Our apprentices and our colleagues are an important asset, and we value their commitment and dedication. Consequently, we invest in their long-term career aspirations through our valued training providers.”
